Report: WTM meet-up

Activities of 25th January WTM meet-up
-Talk: "Being Tech Inclined". By Tomilola Oladipupo
-Design Sprint was done by ladies present after splitting them to Android and Web team. (Anchored by Seriki Esther)
-Plans for IWD were made and ladies were asked to volunteer for the preparations of the event.
-Lastly, A blog was created for the group as an avenue for others to learn.

The Talk: Being Tech Inclined.
Getting inclined they say is the disposition of mind towards something. Being technologically-inclined
 in the context means to be astute and perceptive about technology as it changes. National Academic Press noted that technology changes so quickly, that people who are not technology astute find themselves feeling lost or falling behind. This feeling can hamper self-esteem and cause people to question their ability to survive or thrive in a contemporary world where technological products and services play an increasingly integral role in daily life of the society. Women TechMaker’s  meet-up talks this day, therefore, focus on the benefit and ways to be tech inclined.

BENEFIT of being tech inclined includes:
  • Enhance your ability to operate independently:  Since being tech savvy means knowing a lot about modern technologies, engaging with them becomes easy and more comfortable. Tech inclined people are therefore prominent with the use of modern technology which then helps them to navigate the web easily.
  • Facilitates your personal and professional growth: Internet-based class necessitates that student place value on time management and scheduling, as such, tech savvies who take online courses facilitate their personal growth along their professional growth.
  • Ability to enhance the life of others: We live in a society that is increasingly reliant upon technology, people who want to be proficient with the use of new technology product or services, do so by connecting with tech inclined people.
  • Optimize career opportunities: Tech savvies make themselves available and fit for wide range of opportunities, apart from the services they render for people who want to accomplish some objectives which require the use of technology.
  • Helps to make a better decision: Being tech inclined help logical thinking and also helps to analyze the situation in a knowledgeable way, which in turns help in making better decisions.


HOW to be tech inclined:
  • Get acquitted with the internet. Google is your friend, Use it
  • Be knowledgeable in many fields. A little knowledge about anything will be worth your while, as everything you learn will come in handy at some point in life.
  • Become an expert in the field that interests you the most, research the topic, be self-taught, and make sure nothing in that field is strange to you.
  • Find information about computers, learn to treat computers.
  • Learn to program with at least one programming language.
  • Join a tech community.
  • Run scientific and technical conversation with your expert colleague; don’t be afraid to ask questions.
  • Share knowledge, it helps to be better.


However, things that restricted us from being tech inclined are;
-Restriction of access to the internet.
-Environmental mismatch.
-Shallow insight in term of research.
-Inability to practicalize.

Design Sprint Session
The two team(Android and web) did a wire-frame of their ideas and was thereafter represented by one person each from the team to talk about the idea.

International Women's Day 2018 Wrap Up Event Report

The 2018 Women TechMakers IWD held at Ekiti State University to celebrate and encourage women in technology was loaded with fantastic memories to last a lifetime. The event which was packaged together with efforts of the amazing organizers in the community was held at a beautiful atmosphere with best desserts, attractive swag and special kind of menu of menus to give lovely memories. Lest I forget, turn up was awesome, we had over 100 attendees.     Apart from all the goodies the event came with, The event also brought together speakers across different technology niche and as a result included talks on numerous topics which had compelling impact to everyone present.
